On July 13th, BP Global certified Foundation Honda as the 1st ever "Carbon Neutral" dealer in the world. People attending the event ranged from an Ohio senator to Honda corporate, BP, Castrol, Timberland tires, and multiple television channels.
We have something very special going on at Foundation; we're about to become the very first carbon neutral dealership. What that means is that we're actually going to offset the carbon footprint for every new and used car we sell, the entire building, all of our employee's cars, our parked truck, rental truck, shuttle vehicles, even my personal travel vehicle for work––we're going to offset that carbon footprint.
The idea came from us from BP and without them we probably wouldn't have ever thought to take a project like this; because it's something we didn't know would be possible.
So Foundation Honda has done quite a bit of work in the carbon reduction area. We are a dealership based out of Cleveland that took it upon ourselves to reduce our emissions, replace emissions where possible and to neutralize emissions by buying carbon offsets.
People have had negative attitudes toward car dealers for a long time. We think this gives us a chance to say, "Hey we want to be part of the community; we actually are a very important part of it."
We looked for ways to set off our carbon footprint and where the biggest impacts were.
Right behind us is the largest singular structure solar panel in the country for any car dealership. The beams are made out of 80% recycled cars. Our heating and air conditioning systems are kind of like geothermal. It's one of the top and the market from LG. We've also installed emissions reduction technology so that we are the most efficient we can be with our energy usage throughout the dealership.
We had this construction project going on for almost two years now. We are really concerned about how our employees and our guests would react, and we're constantly hammering, you hear banging everywhere. It turned out that our customer sanctification went way up. We were ranked the number one dealer in Ohio for online reviews.
Our employee satisfaction shot up to being ranked top 100 years in the country to work for out of over 18,000, and we were named Ohio Business of The Year, beating 220,000 businesses. So it's very rewarding to see that people would appreciate what we're doing. The support of the city has been phenomenal. We think we've saved already over 4,000 trees with our solar panels and we're very excited about it because it fits with the image the city has.
It's a great pleasure to congratulate Trevor, his father, Chuck, and the entire team of Motor Cars Honda for this extraordinary achievement. We're being recognized as the first carbon-neutral dealership in the United States!
What makes us the proudest about the whole project is that we feel like we're doing something for our grandchildren.
Their future is something we can help today, and we want to do what we can for them.
We're able to grow our business while also being a responsible steward of the environment; that's one of the most impressive things.
What excites us the most is that we're making a difference. If we can make it work in Cleveland, you can make it where you are.
